17th Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week 2024
The success of the CCC Week celebrations is anchored on strategic and broad-based public information and action campaigns by the CCC and its network of partners. This year - which marks the 17th Climate Change Consciousness Week - and in the succeeding years until the conclusion of the Philippine Development Plan of 2023-2028, the Climate Change Commission will implement information and action campaigns designed to reach as many Filipinos as possible – from leaders to grassroots communities – and empower them to lead and take part in individual and community actions that strengthen adaptive capacities as well as collective efforts in transitioning towards a cleaner and greener planet.
This year’s commemoration of the Climate Change Consciousness Week will feature two distinct components: (1) the conduct of CCC’s staple activities and (2) the conduct of a “partners’ solidarity event” on 25 November 2024.
These “CCC staple activities” include the Net Zero Challenge; the 2nd Philippine Resilience Awards; the 2nd CEO Roundtable Discussion; a comprehensive Climate Briefing with an in-depth discussion on the National Adaptation Plan (NAP); and a high-level discussion on “Intersections between the Law of the Sea and International Environmental Law,” (ITLOS) in collaboration with the University of the Philippines.
The CCC highlights the resonance of “Bagong Pilipinas” with the President’s political will to build a climate-resilient, climate-adaptive Philippines. The CCC therefore aligns its overall purpose for commemorating the Annual Climate Change Consciousness Week with the President’s legacy, and introduces an overarching theme to guide its annual commemoration beginning 2024 up to 2028:
This overarching theme celebrates:
The Legacy of the PBBM Administration. Under President Marcos Jr.’s administration, the Philippines made significant efforts towards becoming a climate adaptive, resilient and sustainable nation.
The Legacy of this Generation. This is the generation of Filipinos that made a choice to take a bold action now against climate change.
The journey towards a “Bagong Pilipinas, bagong bansang matatag” begins with every climate stakeholder recognizing the urgency of action and the collective efforts of actors and players that push the action. As such, the CCC Week 2024 Theme will be:
The 2024 theme calls on every Filipino and every community to take bold but practicable steps to build adaptive capacities in, and strengthen resilience to, the evolving challenges of climate change.
Aksyon emphasizes the importance of implementing concrete measures to mitigate climate risks.
Adaptasyon focuses on building resilience and adjusting to the inevitable impacts of climate change.
Ng Makabagong Henerasyon refers to adaptive, innovative, forward-thinking Filipinos regardless of age. This theme reflects a balanced
approach, which combines urgency with long-term foresight in addressing climate change.
The visual brand and stylescape for this year’s CCC Week take off from the color palette used in the National Adaptation Plan: gradients of warm colors orange and red as well as gradients of cool colors blue and purple.
The gradation of the colors from warm to cool represents the journey of the Philippines in achieving its commitment to the Paris Agreement. At the same time, the color palette lends visual continuity between national efforts to localize the NAP and the CCC’s action campaigns and programmes that support the efficient and effective implementation of these localization efforts.
